Waitakere Smallbore Rifle Club

The Ramble 26/4/22

Hi Guys

Well this episode will be really rambley.

Last Sunday at the Closed Practice shoot Matt who is going to be called No Matt, shot on his mat but didn't put the club mat back down....for me!

I rushed out of the range to get him to come back and put the club mat down..but no he had scarpered.

Last night as it is now. I couldn't concentrate doing the ramble before 12.00 midnight.

With that No Matt not laying down the club mat for me on Sunday...what does he do at club night, he writes his name on no 3 mound. Sorry thats the Secretary's place.

But no...ok I didn't shoot for a while and he got comfortable on no 3. OK for the first 3 rounds but then on 4th detail he plonks his name on no 3.   4th and 5th detail I shoot. He could have had the decency and

plonked his name somewhere else, after all it was his 3rd shoot of the night.  I had to put my name on 2. So its not my fault that I set my scope on no 3 then shot my first sighter on no 3! Good 10 at 9.00.

After that I went to the pack!   My second shoot was much better.

Reminds me of the pecking order in the car park.  Everyone should know the the pecking order is set at the Boss has the car park next to the club house on the right. Then the secretary's park, then well SAS couldn't be there last night as he normally is in that spot.

But lately SAS (Mark C) parks a bit further up leaving room for 3 cars. Maybe the 3rd is for the VP.  The other night SAS wasn't there due the the covid connection. So I parked sort of down a bit from his usual park. Then the Chief RO who is known a No Nickname Ken,

parked in what was the gap for the Secretary, and The Boss (Bruce) parked in his park....in his wifes car. Bruce takes to the range which ever car is going at he time!

So last night SAS was not so good so he texted me that he wouldn't be there. So I parked in my position. Then KOS No Nickname Ken parked in what would be the second car park up from mine.  Why he didn't park his Hilux next to my Rav 4 .... maybe his thought my car might contaminate his or he was leaving that space for SAS?

We had our bi monthly committee meeting on Monday night. After some discussion we decided on some new rules. OK they are not in the constitution but:  In future smokers will not be allowed in the club or even the grounds. Everyone has to reply to the Secretary's

emails within 24 hours. And thirdly anyone who is taller than the secretary's eye level must buy a `bump cap' from a safety shop.    The secretary has one and they do the job admirably . The Secretary has bumped into the upper mound countless times wearing his bump cap... Its a cap with some re enforcing in the lid.  He has to wear it after the time the Honourable secretary knocked himself out when he stood up underneath the upper landing. The Secretary blames that damn Russian dictator!

Last night at the end of the last detail Bruce ( The Boss) declared he was retiring from all shooting. He wouldn't be back as he wants to retire on a good night. He shot a 100.6 . His first possible (100) for 5 years!!

Reminds me of two times he declared he would never shoot again after getting a bath upstairs.   The first time I believed him...he said thats it...I'm never coming back ..threw his rifle into the boot bang and crash. He did a wheelie up the drive. He was off. It was so much drama! So what does he is loyal Secretary do....I called a special meeting for that Sunday as Stevie P was going to give a coaching session on positive thinking. The  Boss and his side kick  No Nickname Ken turn up and Bruce told me to...well be to quiet in real factory language!

After that I just laugh when he says thats it!

My Sister Leonie came along on the Sunday and shot a card. It was a challenge for he as her rifle holding hand was broken before and she was nursing it back to being able to shoot a few cards. But then the day before she trips going up the outside concrete stairs and damaged   her left hand again. So anyway she shot an OK card. Next shoot on May 8th.

Last night young Andrew. I have called him Mr Plod and MOC 2. I will be on the look out for a better nickname for him. Yes he had a good night . His second 20 was really good. But he declared he wouldn't be back for a while. Work commitments and other?

Last night Sargent (Mark R) or Rusty brought along some cakes from his bakery connection. Very nice.

Thanks to the Admiral ( Johan) as he did a sterling job changing cards and marking while we all had smoko. I just decided to enjoy my smoko and left it for the Admiral. Lucky he was on deck.

No Nickname Ken did 1 x RO  and marking. So he did his share of things.

MOC ( Chris) did his usual catering etc.  He is shooting much better now. Changed rifles. He was really going well...or is going well at Full bore but not so with indoor .22.  So now with his newer rifle he knows he is getting somewhere.

Clumbsy Tim shot good sighters but then struck position problems.  I'll get the Shop Steward to have a look at him next week.

Peter Toy....no nickname yet...shot a double. Went OK from what I saw.  Matt that No Mat Matt looked to shoot a few reasonable cards.

The English person shot two more practice doubles...ola waste.

From the meeting on Monday night we have decided to shoot the interclub shoot on May 10th. Club night. So everyone selected by Johan for the second Interclub of the year can try and be there on that night on home turf.

I think its good shooting interclubs on home club nights. More will represent their clubs I think. Including me.  It should be that all year round.

Tomorrow night is the NDC shoot...? Its still on is it?? No??

Anyway next Tuesday night is the beginning of the Club Champs aggregate.

We have 20 renewals for 2022. Two more said they would be back later...

I will have to finalise the Postals and the affiliations Weds/Thurs.

Something else came to mind but left me...???

Lawrence
